Poor guy probably read too many of Todd's blogs and was gunning for an 8 years / 50 million contract.

Love ya Todd, no hard feelings.

This is as it should be.

It would have been a big mistake for him to miss any game time.

He was probably trying to get a one way deal. There's a huge difference between 70,000 and 700,000.

Don't think a one way deal means poop as he needs to clear waivers to go to Stockton and at 715 he gets claimed all day.

He hasn't established himself as an NHL player yet. There are plenty of scenarios where he ends up in the AHL this year. If anyone else was all that high on him, they probably could have had him for free by offering him a 1 million one way contract.

ZERO chance he clears waivers on a 715/year contract and thus ZERO chance he is sent down. So educate me on what the plenty of scenarios would be?

He hasn't established himself as an NHL regular yet. He had a pretty decent March last year, but that was about it. If he comes out and plays like ass for a month or two, he probably clears waivers. Progression isn't always a straight line up.

No one else offered him a contract while he was holding out, so no one is all that high on him. It was probably another factor in the holdout, hoping there was someone with a better opportunity.

Every team has a bunch of Mangiapanes in their system.

Lets agree to disagree on this then. I am not a huge Mangiapane fan either but what he did down the stretch last year had to improve his league value.
$715,000 contracts are attractive to every team in this cap crunch.

Can't they start him down to avoid this issue? But once he's up, thats it

No. If he's in training camp, he has to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL. That's why they had the three goalie thing a few years ago.

Maybe there's a loophole if he doesn't go to training camp at all? But what's the point of that?

Absolutely a 715k contract is valuable in a cap crunch. Especially in Calgary which makes him hard to send down even if they could. I wonder if BT is going to expose a more expensive player on waivers to see if anyone will help him out. Czarnik perhaps ?
